Manual Therapy

First appointment: approx. 50 minutes

Manual therapy is a physical treatment where specific hands-on techniques are used to improve mobility of the physical body and to reduce or eliminate pain.

I only carry out treatment with a proper anamnesis (talking about the medical history), clarification of contraindications, information, examination and, if necessary, safety tests. This initial appointment is obligatory for ALL patients who would like an appointment for “fascia massage with osteopathic techniques with or without chiropractic treatment” with me. Initial appointments and follow-up appointments are approx. 60 minutes.

I work holistically which means that I don’t just treat individual areas of your body based on symptoms. I look at all areas of your musculoskeletal system respectively your body and then treat them accordingly (if necessary). Of course, I focus on specific areas at each appointment, according to your major health issue, as it is not possible for me to treat all areas of your body intensively in one appointment.

Follow-up appointments:

Fascia massage

Fasciae are connective tissue structures that run through the entire body like a three-dimensional network. They envelop all organs, muscles and other structures. They are important for a smooth movement throughout the body. Fascia tissue contains many sensitive receptors that give the brain feedback about the position of the body, type of movement, joint angle and also pain.

Of course I massage muscles in fascia massage, but I work on fascia tissue (= connective tissue) at the same time that is stuck together and/or painful in order to restore painless mobility. The treatment can be painful, especially when I go into deeper layers and treat trigger points. However, you will notice during the treatment how the pain suddenly disappears and how mobility in the affected areas improves again.

Patients tell me again and again, that although the fascia massage was rather unpleasant, they feel lighter afterwards, can move better and feel more comfortable in general. After the first treatment you may experience sore muscles for one or two days, which then will disappear and your complaints in the relevant area will also improve.

Osteopathic techniques & Cranial Sacral Therapy

During the fascia massage I also use osteopathic techniques (e.g. in the abdominal area) and whenever necessary to support the holistic treatment. However I do not just offer a purely osteopathic treatment.

Cranial sacrale therapy uses gentle techniques to release restrictions in the cranial sacrale system, which includes the skull, the spine, the sacrum, the nervous system as well as surrounding tissues and structures.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic is about restoring the statics in the body, eliminating movement restrictions and the associated pain. It therefore focuses on joint misalignments and therefore complements the fascia massage and osteopathic techniques that I use.

I also work with a holistic chiropractic program and I add further techniques depending on the problem. I do not use any aids during the treatment. I use gentle techniques, i.e. there is no pulling or tugging. I use non-specific and specific techniques.

On the cervical spine I mostly use mobilizing techniques, which are based on “Dorn therapy”. This allows me to treat your cervical spine, even if chiropractic techniques are contraindicated on your cervical spine. If necessary and possible I ONLY use specific chiropractic techniques on the cervical spine! This means that I use palpation to identify the exact misalignment (e.g. rotated, tilted, displaced) of a cervical vertebra and then treat this misalignment with a specific chiropractic technique. The palpation of pain points and correction can be briefly uncomfortable. The chiropractic treatment itself is NOT painful.

Taping

Manual therapy can be supported by taping. I apply an elastic textile tape to the skin. There are various techniques for applying the tapes, which have different effects. Some taping techniques are intended to support and stabilize a joint. However there are also taping techniques that can relieve muscles or have a positive effect on the musculoskeletal system, organs in the body and the sensation of pain via receptors in certain areas of the skin. Other adhesive techniques support the healing process of tissue so that bruises, swelling and scars can heal more quickly.
